Setting up and maintaining the complex testing environment, a large set of standard Windows Systems, WinXP, Vista 32/64, Win7 32/64, instrumented with the WHQL client software and a network of WHQL controller systems required to successfully complete tests is costly and overwhelming.
Correctly implemented drivers can be eligible for Certification in less than two weeks. Once the WHQL tests are accepted and the submission approved by Microsoft, the vendor will be entitled to distribute the driver on Windows Update and receive Windows Error Reporting data.
